John W. Burwell, 83, of St. Petersburg, FL, died Thursday, May 1, 2003 at Apollo Health & Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Browning, MO and came here in 1945 from San Diego, CA. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service retiring in 1973 as assistant supervisor of the St. Pete Beach branch. He was a life member of Northside Masonic Lodge #283 in St. Petersburg, a member of American Legion Post #274 in MO, and was a HAM Radio operator. He studied pre med at UCLA in California. He was an Army veteran and was a member of St. Vincent’s Episcopal Church. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Leila, two sons, David W. Burwell of New Port Richey, FL, John W. Burwell, II of Oldsmar, FL, one daughter, Virginia Anne Bruen of St. Petersburg, one sister, Virginia B. McArtor of Browning, MO, one stepson, Leonard F. Hadley of St. Petersburg, eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
