bullet  General Notes:

OBITUARY

Martha Jane Gable, daughter of John and Mary Gable was born in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, April 5, 1851. Died at Browning, Missouri, June 4, 1916, age 65 years, 2 months. She was united in marriage to Marion Burwell of Green County, Pennsylvania, February 1, 1868. She and her husband moved to Missouri in 1868, settling in Linn County in the vicinity of Browning and continued to live in Linn and Sullivan counties until her death. They came to Missouri with the John Gables by boat on the Ohio, the Mississippi, the Missouri, and the Grand River to Brunswick and by wagon to Linn County. She lived near Clearspring School with her family on a farm, six miles south of Milan, in Sullivan County, Missouri. Seven children were born to this union, five of which are living, Anna Shipley of Reger; John Burwell of Jacksonville; Willis Burwell of Milan; Lena Maggart of Green City and J. D. Burwell of Browning, and all were at her bedside at the time of her death.

Two daughters, Ida and Lucy, having preceded her in death. She has been a member of the Church of Christ in Christian Union for about thirty-five years being a devout Christian and faithful to her profession.

A deep shadow has fallen across the old homestead. The golden wedding was nearing. She could have said, "Just think of it, father, we have been together forty-eight years." The twain stood together like two trees of the forest with interlocked branches. Their affections had taken root together in two of their children's graves. Side by side in life's great battle they had fought a hard fight. But death comes to unjoint this alliance. God will not longer let her suffer mortal ailments. The reward of righteousness is ready and must be (clipping cut here). She was buried in Mundell Cemetery (Dry Ridge), Browning, Sullivan County, Missouri.
