Johann Henrich DOPPSTADT (Henry) was born in Wettsassen, In Groshertzog von Helpen Bei Rhein, Germany. He landed at Baltimore, MD with his parents 18 Nov 1831. 1837 (exact date unknown) he married Susannah GROVE. Henry, Susan, five infant children buried side-by-side at Walker Cemetery (new cemetery), Shanksville, Somerset Co., PA. Total of 15 children.

Deed info: A great portion of this homestead is known as the Lambert tract of land along Callendar Creek, to be exact, 104 acres and 149 perches and the house allowance. This property was an original Land (grant (or indenture)) issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to Samuel Lambert and dated the 6th day of January AD 1794. Other deeds adding parcels of land to this farm are many, one of which was issued to Joseph Kirkbride in the year 1794 AD on the third day of September and signed by John Penn, Esq.

August 30, 1851 the heirs of Jacob Duppstadt sell to Henry Duppstadt "all that certain part of plantation of land, situate in said Stoneycreek Township adjoining lands of Casper Lambert, Jacob Zigler and containing about two hundred fifty-nine acres, with all the appurtenances.

History of Bedford, Somerset and Fulton Counties, 1884 Waterman and Watkins pg 520 The Trinity Evangelical Church, Shanksville, was organized by Rev. Philip Sheeder in 1848. This congregation was formerly a part of the Shade church. The first officers were Jacob Weigel, Henry Doppstadt, John Speicher and Jonathan Woy.

Beers 1876 Atlas of Somerset County, the divisions of Stoney Creek Twp is the "Duppstat District", north of Shanksville, with family members living there, and there is a GROVE dwelling in another District a few miles to the east. (Other GROVEs in 1876 are in Shade Twp, further north).
