bullet  General Notes:

Leander fought in the war with Mexico and was left sick at Jalapa, Mexico on April 26, 1848. Tradition gives us two possible stories of what happened next. The first is that Leander died of his sickness. The second is that he went to California, probably with his cousin, Andrew JacksonTruitt, during the '49 Gold Rush. No record of Leander has been found after he fell sick. If he did go to California, he might have come back when his cousin did, who returned from the gold rush and moved to West Texas. The last record of his family was the 1850 Census where his wife was called "Marthy" and they lived on the farm of a family named Kennedy. 1805
