OBITUARY O.E. Hooker Dies at Caruthersville, Mo.
Orval(sic) E. Hooker, former prosecuting attorney of Pemiscot County and a leader in Republican county politics died at his home Wednesday night, October 13, of cancer. He was 55.
Mr. Hooker came to Caruthersville in 1919 as high school principal. Later he was superintendent of schools at Hayti, during which time he studied law. He was admitted to the bar in 1925.
He leaves his widow, his father, John T. Hooker, his brother, Glenn Hooker, of Ferguson, Mo., and a son O.E. Hooker, Jr., of Ouachita College, Ark.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church, October 15, in Caruthersville.

Orvel was a teacher during the regular school year and attended the First District Normal School (later named Northeast Missouri State Teacher's College and now Truman University) in Kirksville, Missouri summer sessions each year, 1911 through 1918. He also did some correspondence work for at least one term (Fall 1915). He received this elementary teaching certificate in August 1914, his 30 hour and 90 hour certificates in August 1916, and his 120 hour certificate and B.S. diploma in August 1918.
While a student at First District Normal School, Orvel held these teaching positions during the school year: Elementary grades, Browning, Missouri (1913-1915); Teacher, Pollock, Missouri (1915-1916); Principal, Dawn, Missouri (1916-1917) $720 salary; Superintendent, Prairie Hill, Missouri (1917-1918) $1125 salary; Superintendent, Caruthersville, Missouri (1918-1919) $1200 salary.
