He also received Patent #42 on February 5, 1821 on 80.26 acres E 1/2 NW 1/4 Section 5, Twp. 8, Rg 5 E, Miami County, Ohio. He paid taxes on the last patent in 1824 & 1825 as a “non-resident.”

Joseph and his wife Hannah seemed to lead the way to Miami County in western Ohio with their children, in-laws and relatives by marriages. Joseph was born about 1775 and married Hannah Boggs (sic Hannah Haney) prior to the birth of their first child, Margaret in 1806, followed by Inetta, Charlotte, James, William, Mary and Joseph who were all born in Pennsylvania; and then followed by those born in Ohio, Deborah, child (?), Susan and Eliza Jane. Prior to Joseph’s move to Ohio he served as an Ensign with Capt. John Creigh’s company for a short period during the War of 1812.
