Jacob was very industrious and a wise business man. He overcame many difficulties and hardships to become quite wealthy. At the time of his death, his estate was worth from $35,000 to $40,000. He farmed and did a did a great amount of teaming and milling. He made a trip to New Orleans in 1825 by flat boat down the Stillwater, Miami, Ohio, and Mississippi Rivers. His teaming was northly which at that time was regarded as hazardous and difficult. He at one time was a member of the Christian Church and later the German Baptist.
