Charles Levi Truett ¹⁸⁰⁵

TRUETT -- (Frances Truett).
Charles Levi, born 1830 in Buncombe County, as a young man migrated to the Peachtree section of Cherokee County. On May 22, 1851 he married Mary Rebecca Kimsey, daughter of James Kimsey, a pioneer Baptist minister of this section. Children were William Thomas, James Lafayette, Sarah Caroline, Charles Spurgeon, Marion Lee, John Harvey, George Washington, and Luther Jeremiah. When the children became of school age, Truett moved his family to a small farm near present Hayesville in Clay County, where the educational advantages were better. Hicksville Academy, which was founded and operated by John O. Hicks, was famous in this section.
Of the eight children of Charles Levi Truett, George was the most famous. His youth was spent in sight of Tusquittee Bald. His biography states "in Deep Gap on Yellow Mountain not far away are two springs about three hundred yards apart. The water from one flows east through Tarucah River to the Atlantic. The water from the other flows west through Kimsey Creek (named for grandfather) and into the Gulf of Mexico. And like these streams, human influence for good flowed forth from these Southern Highlands to bless the world." He attended Hicksville Academy for ten years and finished this school at eighteen. Later he operated Hiwassee College of North Georgia. The Truett family migrated to Texas where he became pastor of the First Baptist Church of Dallas and President of the Baptist World Alliance.
