On March 20, 1817 William Truitt along with his wife Elizabeth, his daughters Margaret, Mary, and Elizabeth, and his sons James P. and Henry P. left the Snow Hill, Maryland, area and headed west. On April 24 they arrived at Manchester, Ohio, located in Adams County near the Ohio River.
