Notes on Thomas and Mary Parker of Worcester County, Maryland

14 May 1784, Charles Parker sold to Thomas Parker for 5 shillings 100 acres of ?America? in Worcester County. (Land Records Of Worcester County, Maryland 1666-1810, by Ruth T. Dryden, pg. 21)

August Court 1786, Samuel Parker and Barzilla Parker (both aged over 14) orphans of Sacker Parker, chose Samuel Taylor as their guardian with James Selby and Thomas Parker acting as his sureties. (Worcester County, Maryland Orphans Court Proceedings, Vol. 1 1777-1800, by David V. Heise, pg. 109)
7 May 1788 (sic, but most likely 1787) Scarbrough Parker writes his will and leaves ?To my wife Mary Parker, who is now pregnant, EX. To my son Samuel (actually Lemuel) Parker, the land Parker's Adventure. To son Levin Parker. To Samuel Taylor, the EX. His three youngest children are unnamed. Wit: James Selby, Matthew Dais, Joseph Ennis, he is now deceased?. The will is probated on 11 April 1788 in Worcester County, Maryland. (The Ocean City Life Saving-Station Museum Prepared and Transcribed by Suzanne B. Hurley)

August Court 1788, Mary Parker, with Samuel Taylor and James Selby of Ezekiel, her sureties, is appointed guardian of the minor orphan children of Scarborough Parker, deceased. They being Lemuel Parker aged 12, Elizabeth Parker aged 8, Sacker Parker aged 6, Priscilla Parker aged 4 and Scarborough Parker* aged 8 months. (Worcester County, Maryland Orphans Court Proceedings, Vol. 1 1777-1800, by David V. Heise, pg. 121) *Does anyone know if this child Scarborough Parker was male or female? I believe she was a girl but would like to see proof.

1790 Census of Worcester County, Maryland (pg.126)
Thomas Parker 1 male 16 & over, 3 males 0-16, 6 females, 3 slaves

A possible break down of this family;
Thomas Parker, head of household
Wife, Mary (Truitt) Parker
Her son, Lemuel Parker, born ca 1776
Her son, Levin Parker, was deceased by 1788 and would not have been listed in this census
Her daughter, Elizabeth Parker, born ca 1780
Her son, Sacker Parker, born ca 1782
Her daughter, Priscilla Parker, born ca 1784
Her daughter (??), Scarborough Parker, born ca December 1787 or January 1788.

This leaves one extra male and female. I believe that the extra male is my ancestor Thomas Parker (ca 1783/88- after 1860) by an unknown first wife of Thomas Parker who married Mary (Truitt) Parker sometime between August 1788 and February 1790. Thomas Parker (Jr.) married Elizabeth ca 1809, she is said to have been the daughter of Elisha & Elizabeth (Gordy) Parker.

February 1790, Thomas Parker & Mary, his wife, guardians of Lemuel, Elizabeth, Sacker, Priscilla & Scarborough Parker, orphans of Scarborough Parker, late of Worcester County, deceased. (Worcester County Guardian Accounts Lib. JW17 fol. 98-101)

April Court 1790, Thomas Parker & Mary, his wife, guardians to Elizabeth, Priscilla & Scarborough Parker, orphans of Scarborough Parker, to pass no further account as there is no estate to support the orphans. (Worcester County, Maryland Orphans Court Proceedings, Vol. 1 1777-1800, by David V. Heise, pg. 153)

February 1791, Thomas Parker & Mary, his wife, guardians of Lemuel & Sacker Parker, orphans of Scarborough Parker, late of Worcester County, deceased. (Worcester County Guardian Accounts Lib. JW17 fol. 129 & 130)

3 April 1798, Thomas Parker with wife Mary Parker sold part of ?Parker?s Adventure? containing 183 acres and right of dower 63 acres to Lemuel Parker. (Land Records Of Worcester County, Maryland 1666-1810, by Ruth T. Dryden, pg. 450)

14 April 1798, Thomas Parker with wife Mary Parker, sold 100 acres of ?America? to Selby Parker. (Land Records Of Worcester County, Maryland 1666-1810, by Ruth T. Dryden, pg. 21)

Thomas Parker 1 male 0-10, 1 male 26-45, 1 female 16-26, 1 female 45 & over

11 October 1814, William Chandler Truitt, orphan of George Truitt, guardian John Truitt with his sureties Thomas Parker and Lemuel Hozier (also recorded as Hoshier). (Worcester County, Maryland Orphans Court Proceedings, Vol. 2 1800-1816, by David V. Heise, pg. 301) NOTE: Lemuel Hoshier and Elizabeth Truitt marriage license dated 22 January 1799. (Worcester County, Maryland Marriage Records 1795-1865, by Jody Powell, pg. 62)

And Thomas Parker was appointed executor of John Truitt?s will which was probated on 1 August 1826. (Worcester County, Maryland Wills 1822-1833 MH, by Ruth T. Dryden, pg. 19)
