Rex Allen Gooch

REX ALLEN GOOCH, MAJOR, USAF (Ret), was born on 9 April 1954 in StLouis Missouri where he resides with his wife, Patricia, and his daughter Christine.

Enlisting in the USAF in 1974, he served two years as a flight crew medic on the C-9A. He was commissioned a 2LT in the USAFR on 14 May, 1978 at Det 207, St Louis University. That same year he began his civilian career as a police officer in the St Louis metropolitan area.

His reserve service has included; Instructor Air Weapons Controller/ Weapons & Tactics Officer, Missouri Air National Guard 1978-86; Security Police Operations Officer 1986-91; Security Police Commander 1991-1997; USAF Academy Admissions Liaison Officer, 1978 1997. Major Gooch was recalled during Operation Desert Storm where he replaced the active duty Security Police Operations Officer at Lackland AFB Texas. He was called to active duty again in 1992 to work counter drug operations in Central America from HQ USSOUTHCOM in Panama. His awards include 2 Meritorious Service Medals, the USAF Commendation Medal, Reserve Meritorious Service Medal, Combat Readiness Medal, National Defense Medal, Atmed Forces Reserve Medal (w/mobilization device and silver hour glass), 2 AF Outstanding Unit Citations, 2 USAF Organizational Excellence Awards, and the USAF Honor Graduate Ribbon. He was selected as the Air Training Command Outstanding IMA Security Police Officer of the Year, 1990. Major Gooch retired from the USAF Reserve on December 2nd, 1997.

Major Gooch has a degree from the University of Missouri in Administration of Justice. In his civilian job he is commander of the Traffic Division and Police Motorcycle Unit at the Maryland Heights Police department. As a former Detective Sergeant, he is a member of the St Louis Major Case Squad and an Adjunct Police Academy Instructor. A member of the MOWW since 1983, his other memberships include; the Air Force Association, the USAF Security Police Officers Association, the Reserve Officers Association, the American Legion, Lodge 360 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, Lodge 15 Fraternal Order of Police, the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, and the Sons of Confederate Veterans of the Civil War.
