William and Mary lived on the Black Warrior River in Fayette County, Alabama, not far from Tuscaloosa. In 1845 he brought his family to Hot Spring County, Arkansas and acquired land in the vicinity of Lono. Also possibly born in North Carolina.

Note 1 Page 5. The names and birth dates of William Hiram Heard, Sr., his wife, Mary "Polly" Powell, and eight of his ten children, Nancy Powell, Stephen, Benjamin Carven, Zachariah Loon, John Thomas, Mary Ann, Andrew Jackson, and Martha Melissa, were copied from the Bible of Andrew Jackson Heard by Leona, wife of John Willis Heard. The list was dated 6-14-1914 and was given to Mrs. Martha Allen (Elliott) Nowlin, 1511 East Mill Street, Malvern, Arkansas.
After arriving in Hot Spring County, Arkansas, William Hiram Heard, Sr. acquired land, and was a store owner and Hot Spring County Justice of Peace.
