SUSANNA ROSS. She was born Jan. 17, 1738. She was still living in 1790. She married Oct 28, 1762 (St. James Church, Lancaster, Pa.) Rev. William Thomson, son of Rev. Samuel Thomson and Janet (Holmes). He was born in Cumberland County, Pa., May 22, 1735, died Cecil Co., Md, Aug 16, 1785. He was ordained Deacon and Priest, at Bishop of London’s Palace, Fullam, in December, 1759. He was the founder of St. John’s P.E. Church at Carlisle, Pa., and was appointed by Governor Eden, May 1, 1773, to be Curate, and June 23, 1773, to be Rector of North Elk Parish, Cecil Co., Md. At the time of his death, he was Rector of St. Stephen’s Parish, Cecil Co., Md. He was the first(?) cousin of General William Thompson, who married Catharine Ross. See letter of James Hamilton, of Carlisle, Pa., to the notary of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, in "Collections of Historical Society," Vol. 1, pg. 366. Note - H. H. Bell feels quite sure that May 26, 1738 , is correct. The date, he says, is taken from an old Bible belonging to the family of Rev. William Thomson...The records of the Donegal Presbyterian, show that Rev. Samuel Thomson, Licentiate, was received from Ireland, Nov. 17, 1737, and his son, William was born in America. Notes - Dates of birth of herself and husband, and date of their marriage, found on the records of North Elk Parish (St. Mary Ann’s), Cecil Co., Md. Copy at Md. Hist. Society, Baltimore. Susanna ROSS was born on 17 JAN 1738 in New Castle, New Castle Co., DE. She died on 1 MAR 1801 in Carlisle, Cumberland Co., PA.
She was married to Rev. William THOMSON on 28 OCT 1762 in St. James Church, Lancaster, Lancaster Co., PA. Rev. William THOMSON was born on 22 MAY 1735 in Cumberland Co., PA. He may have been born 26 May 1738. He died on 16 AUG 1785 in Cecil Co., MD. He was the cousin of General William Thompson, married to Catherine Ross, Susanna's sister.
William was ordained a deacon and priest of the Episcopal Church December 1759 at the Bishop of London's Palace in Fullam. He was the founder of St. John's P. E. Church at Carlisle, PA, and was appointed by Governor Eden 23 Jun 1773 to be rector of North Elk Parish (also known as St. Mary Ann's Parish), Cecil Co., MD. He was appointed rector of St. Stephen's Church, Sassafras Neck, Cecil Co., MD 6 Jul 1779 and served there until his death.
William's father was Rev. Samuel Thomson who was the first pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Pennsborough, two miles from Carlisle, PA. He was installed 14 Nov 1739. William's mother was Janet Holmes. Susanna ROSS and Rev. William THOMSON had the following children:
51 i. Ross THOMSON was born on 27 OCT 1763. He was a witness to John Vangezell's will 2 Mar 1783.
52 ii. Mary THOMSON was born on 9 JAN 1765. She died on 5 FEB 1826.
She married Thomas Brockus Veasey, a Cecil Co., MD physician and planter, in Cecil Co., MD, 29 Mar 1781. He was born 29 Mar 1750 and died Feb 1806.
53 iii. Gertrude THOMSON was born on 31 MAY 1766.
54 iv. Samuel Magaw THOMSON was born on 25 OCT 1767.
55 v. Elizabeth THOMSON was born on 16 NOV 1768. She was married to Joshua George 21 Dec 1786.
56 vi. Sarah Howard THOMSON was born on 16 MAR 1770. She died on 28 DEC 1842. She married James Hamilton of Carlisle, PA, 6 May 1786.
57 vii. Susanna Warrel THOMSON was born on 13 DEC 1772.
58 viii. Jane Ramsey THOMSON was born on 13 MAR 1774. She died on 10 NOV 1796.
