bullet  General Notes:

John and Elizabeth Hatcher lived near his parents (Willima & Polly) for 3 or 4 years, but between 1830 and 1832 they moved to Monroe County, Tennessee.

In 1834 the family followed the tide of migration westward to Calloway County, Missouri. For 3 or 4 years John was overseer of the plantation belonging to Captain Boone, a nephew of Daniel Boone and had about 100 slaves under him.

In 1838 the family located in Sullivan County, Missouri before the county was formed. He took up 1,500 acres of land, paying $1.25 per acre. There he was extensively engaged in ranching and stock raising, making a specialty of sheep raising.

John eventually sold most of the land he had accumulated and moved to Scottsville, Missouri, a town of about 150 population at the time. He purchased the hotel and was its proprietor until his death. This small town was about a mile and one-half west of the Hatcher farm, but there hasn't been a town there for many years. The Hatcher farm was later known as the John Bailey farm for many years. It was then purchased by Lee Ellis Hedges and his sons.

The Hatcher family cemetery is located on this farm. John and his first two wives were buried in the family plot on the old homestead.
