OBITUARY

Reece M. Stiles, age 93 of Malvern, died Saturday, September 13, 2014 in Hot Springs. He was born on September 29, 1920 in Rolla, Arkansas to the late William C. Stiles and Helen Heard Stiles. Reece was reared and received his early education in Lono and Malvern. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1937 and served in the U. S. Army from 1938 through 1944.

He graduated from Ouachita Baptist College in 1947 and the University of Arkansas in 1952. He attended the University of Southern California in 1948 and was a deputy county clerk at the Hall of Justice in Los Angeles County. He was a principal at Magnet Cove School and Park Elementary School in Hot Springs before retiring in 1986. He also was an insurance agent for Farm Bureau and later for State Farm. Reece was a member of First United Methodist Church of Malvern, and the Retired Teachers Association of Garland and Hot Spring Counties. He served for many years on the Board of Trustees of the Malvern/Hot Spring County Library, and together with his wife and family, was a strong supporter of the library. For several years he played the violin with the Hot Springs-Arkadelphia Chamber Orchestra, and played the fiddle with the Yesteryears Volunteers Band. He had many other hobbies and interests including working on his pine tree farm, growing a big garden, harvesting fruit from his trees, and raising honey bees. On June 12, 1947, he married the former Patricia Delaney in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She preceded him in death in 2005.

In 1994, he and his wife were named Arkansas Tree Farm Family of the Year by the Arkansas Forestry Commission.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan Tanner and her husband, Donald of Malvern; his grandchildren, Will Tanner, Averee Stiles, and Aubree Stiles; a nephew, Joyce Pipkin (Carol) of Pennsylvania, Danny Pipkin (Georgia) of Arkadelphia, Patsy Pipkin Supak of California; his sisters-in-law, Adrienne Overton (Cletis) of Malvern, and Micki McGee (John) of Georgia, as well as several other nieces and nephews and many friends.

Reece was also preceded in death by his son, Starbuck Stiles, and by his siblings, Lettie Neeper, Myrtle Pipkin Overturf, Daisy Witherspoon, Alma Fite, Tennie Mae Wilson, Lillian McKeehan, Odie Stewart, and Delmon "Pete" Stiles.

A memorial service will be held at ten o'clock Wednesday morning, September 17, 2014 in the chapel of J. A. Funk Funeral Home with Reverend LaVon Post officiating. The family invites everyone to visit with them after the service.

Memorials may take the form of donations to the First United Methodist Church or to the Malvern/Hot Spring County Library.
