General Notes:
Bettie and Will met when Bettie was visiting in the home of a friend from Mt. Holly, Union, Arkansas, USA. The girls were classmates at a "finishing school" in Little Rock in the late 1870s. Most of their "courting" was by letters. Ricky Strain now possesses a letter Bettie wrote to "Will" in which she made it very plain that he could not plan for them to get married until he had gotten permission from her father Thomas Howard Davis. From all reports, she was a very beautiful woman and was "prim and proper." The wedding was likely held at the home of Thomas Howard and Louisa Christina Copeland Davis. They lived on their farm about 3 miles west of Rose Bud on what is known in 2004 as State Highway 124 (or the Rose Bud Road] from the time of their marriage until their deaths. This house was near the county lines for both Cleburne and Faulkner Counties. 1764
