Grandmother Mattie Guest Heard apparently had a heart condition. Daughter Mamie (my mother) thinks she was sick when the family went to California in 1926 because she was very anxious to get back home to Lono, Arkansas. When she had Aunt Fern on June 27, 1928, Mother said Grandmother Mattie had a lot of congestion and coughed up a lot of fluid. Just before her death in February, 1930, she had a stroke and slowly became paralyzed. --by Martha Mays Gillespie 5-31-98.
Mattie married Bishop Albert Heard, son of William Hiram Heard Jr. and Tennessee Strode "Tennie" Young, on 14 Dec 1913.
