His letter says: "From various data, I think I have placed this person (wife of Col. George T. Ross), the three Miss Copperthwaites became Mrs. Col. Ross, U.S.A., Mrs. Major Carmichal, (?Carmiat) and Mrs. Reynolds. First, Mrs. Ross had a Isabelle Ross, whose cat had hydrophobia and her head cut off with a carving knife. Second, Mrs. Major Carmiat Who had Mrs. Dr. Canas, recently dead. Third, Mrs. Reynolds had Corrinne Mortimer, Judge of the Criminal Court, and James, who killed a waiter in a saloon. Mortimer left town, and someone carried the prisoner a loaf of bread in which was a pistol and James shot himself. The portrait of Major Carmiat always hung in Mrs. Carmiats room and I think Colonel Ross’s was also there.......
