General Notes:
CRIPPLED COBBLER OF BERLIN ROBBED OF WINTER SAVINGS
Jacob. W. Ross, proprietor of the familiar Broadway shoe shop in Berlin is a frail, crippled, 83-year old man. He had been in poor health all winter and unable to repair as many shoes as usual, but the little money he made, he had saved to purchase supplies and merchandise.
His winter savings were stolen last Thursday evening by a woman who entered his shop while he was working there along. She asked to buy a pair of shoelaces, and the cobbler, accomodatingly hopped behind the counter to get the article for her. She tried to follow him closely, but he requested that she stay in front of the counter, because his money drawer was located behind it.
When he returned with the shoelaces, the woman demonstrated her gratitude for them with undue enthusiasm, putting her hand on his shoulder and showering him with mock friendliness. He had to ask her to leave.
