PAUL JUNIOR MATHEWS (1919-1990)
Paul Junior Mathews was born August 30, 1919, near Sumner-Chillicothe, MO
area, the son of George and Lula Mae (Dunkle) Mathews. Paul passed away
Thursday evening June 7th at the North Kansas City Hospital. He was 70 years
old. Paul worked for North American Aviation, Haven Steel until 1959 and
spent the remainder of his life farming. He moved to rural Orrick in 1945.
He was a member of ADA Lodge #444 AF & AM of Orrick and an active member of
the Orrick Baptist Church.
Paul was married to Dortha Mae Hubbard of Avalon, MO on October 5, 1940. She
preceded him in death on January 9, 1988. To this union were born five
children- four sons: Paul Elwin Mathews of Higginsville, Elton Dale Mathews
of rural Orrick, Gale Linn Mathews of Lawson, Carl Edwin Mathews of rural
Orrick and one daughter: Pamela Kay Norris of rural Orrick. Other survivors
include 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Claude
Mathews of Chillicothe, MO; and one sister, Aletha Beier of Greensboro, NC.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Eugene Mathews
and Carl Mathews; and one sister, Hattie Timmons.
It was the family's desire that funeral services for Paul be held at 1:30 PM
at the Orrick Baptist Church with the Rev. John Justice officiating. Musical
selections given by Mrs. Kenneth Norris, organist, and Mrs. Raymond Allen,
soloist. Masonic services were given by Acting Worshipful Master, Chester
McAfee, Sunday afternoon at the Chapel.
