The Rev. and Mrs. Orvel Edwin Hooker announce the engagement of their daughter, Cynthia Lynn, to Richard Haywood Sears of Houston, Texas, son of Dr. and Mrs. Warren Worth Sears of Pensacola, Fla.
Miss Hooker is a graduate of Byram High School and attended Mississippi College and Hinds Junior College. She is a graduate of the University of Mississippi, where she received bachelor's amd master's degrees. She was an officer of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority, a Chi Psi fraternity Little Sister, was on the Dean's Honor Roll and a member fo Mortar Board, Rho Lambda and Sigma Tau Delta. She also was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, the National Student Speech and Hearing Association and the Ole Miss Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She is employed as an audiologist with the Magnolia Speech School.
Mr. Sears is a graduate of J.M. Tate High School and the University of Mississippi, where he received a bachelor's degree. He is employed by Brown and Root, Inc. in Houston, Texas, as an accountant.
The wedding will be at 2 p.m. July 10 at the Brookleigh Baptist Church.

Cynthia Lynn Hooker, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Orvel Edwin Hooker of Jackson, became the bride of Richard Haywood Sears of Houston, Texas, son of Dr. and Mrs. Warren Worth Sears of Pensacola, Fla., in an afternoon wedding ceremony July 10 at Brookleigh Baptist Church in Jackson. The bride's father officiated.
The bride wore a candlelight gown of chiffonette and Schiffli lace, featuring a high neck with a lace yoke, buttons down the back and on the cuffs, a bodice with seed pearls and sequins, bishop sleeves and a chapel-length train trimmed with Schiffli lace.
Debbie Russell of Kosciusko served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Lita Edwards of Jackson, Ellen Johnson of Baton Rouge, La., and Ann Sears of Pensacola, Fla., sister of the groom.
Tad Ihns of Pensacola, Fla., served as best man. Groomsmen were Michael Butschek of Ashland, Peter Haupt of Gulfport and Bill Sears of Houston, Texas, brother of the groom.
A reception followed the ceremony at Brookwood Country Club.
The couple will reside in Houston, Texas. 37
