Jim attended schools in Ironton, Ohio and graduated from Central High School, Columbus, Ohio in 1974. He graduated cum laude with a B.S. degree in Accounting from the Ohio State University in 1978. In 1978 he moved to Pasadena, California where he was employed by a regional Accounting Firm and enrolled in the Univ of Southern California. He earned his Master's degree in Tax Accounting from USC in 1981. He was a Certified Public Accountant and served as a Tax Consultant in addition to his employment by the Purex Co.
