OBITUARY - Geo. L. Barrows Passed Away September 16th

George Lewis, son of Granville and Martha Barrows, was born near Browning, Missouri, on January 22, 1898, and passed away at the Wirght Memorial Hospital in Trenton, Missouri, September 16, 1948, after a brief illness, at the age of 50 years, 7 months and 24 days.

He was united in marriage to Lillian Imogene Riddle, on May 25, 1924. To this union were born two daughters, Charmaine Hollon, of near Purdin and Rayma Lee, of the home.

In early life he united with the Locust Valley Baptist Church. He was a successful farmer and one of the leaders of his community. He was trusted, respected and loved not only by his neighbors but also many small children in whom he was greatly interested.

He was preceded in death by father, mother, one sister, Gladys, and one brother, Ben. He is survived by his wife of the home, two daughters, two grandchildren, Billie Lee and Elena Kay Hollon, three sisters, May Hubbard, Hale, Mo.; Dora Atkins, Albuquerque, New Mexico; Ved Warren, Browning; one brother, Ervin, of Purdin, Mo.; three half brothers, Everett, Coulee City, Wash.; Fred, Ness City, Kansas and Marvin, Linneus, Mo.

His death came as a shock (to) the entire community, and his presence will be greatly missed by his many friends and neighbors and loved ones.

Father was mild and lovely,
Gentle as the summer breeze,
Pleasant as the air of evening
Which floats among the trees,
Peaceful by thy silent slumber
But in Heaven we hope to meet
Where no parting will ever be.

Funeral services were held at the home northwest of Laclede, Sunday afternoon at 1 o’clock, and at the Locust Valley Baptist Church at 2:30 conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Kelley of Brookfield. The song service was by Paul Prewitt, Bonnie Dowell, June Jennings and Willard Roberts, with Miss Carolyn Prewitt at the piano. The songs were: Abide With Me, God Understands and Beautiful Isle. A special number was sung by Kelley, The Last Mile of the Way.

Pall bearers were: Devon Barrows, Burl Barrows, Russel Barlow, Orvis Atkins, Lavaun and Leland Gooch. Interment was made in the Locust Valley cemetery under the direction of the Wade Funeral Service.

Those attending the funeral from a distance were: Mrs. Dora Atkins and son, Orvis, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Mr. and Mrs. Noel Hubbard, Mr. and Mrs. Rollie Barlow and family and Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Griswold, of Hale; Mrs. Elizabeth Gilmer and son, Carl, of Chillicothe; Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Smith of Kansas City; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Barrows, Ness City, Kansas; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mathews, Liberty; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Witte, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Kennedy, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Cummings, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Barrows, Mr. and Mrs. Ishamel Dean, Brookfield; Devaun Barrows, Brookfield; Devaun Barrows, Hardin; James Alexander, Meadville; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Barrows and son of Monroe City, Mo.
