OBITUARY - Ben H. Barrows Passed Away January 3rd

Benjamin Harrison, son of Granville A. and Martha A. Barrows, was born October 22, 1888, in Sullivan County, Missouri, and departed this life at his home near Purdin, Missouri, January 3, 1948, athe the age of 59 years, 2 months and 12 days.

His early life was spent near Browning, Missouri. In the spring of 1910 he went to Canada where he homesteaded land, returning to Missouri, in 1916. In the fall of 1917 he enlisted in the United States Navy, during World War I and served 13 months.

On October 5, 1918 he was united in marriage to Nellie L. Warren of Meadville, Missouri. To this union three sons were born, Carl Benjamin, of Monroe City, Missouri, Warren Edwin and William Burl, of the home.

He leaves to morun his passing, his wife, three sons, one daughter-in-law, and one devoted grandson, James Benjamin Barrows of Monroe City, whom he loved dearly. He also leaves three sisters, two brothers, three half brothers: Mrs. Veda Barrows, Browning, Mo.; Mrs. Dora Atkins, Albuquerque, New Mexico; Mrs. Noel Hubard, Hale, Mo.; Edwin, of Purdin, George of Laclede, Fred of Ness City, Kansas; Marvin, of Linneus; Everett, of Coulie City, Wash., and a host of relatives and friends. His father, mother and one sister, Gladys, preceded him in death.

In early life he joined the Baptist Church in Browning, Mo. He was also a member of the Claude Myers Legion Post No. 274 in Browning.

For the past seventeen years he resided on a farm south of Purdin. He was a good neighbor and was ready to help any one in need.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 5, 1948, at the Methodist church in Purdin, conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Kelly of Brookfield. The song services were by a mixed quartet. Rev. Kelly sang a solo. Pallbearers were, Raymond Warren, Devon Barrows, Dewayne Myers, Granville Barrows, Junior Bargar, and Ralph Foltz.

Graveside Military service was conducted by the Claude Myers Legion Post 274 of Browing. Interment was the Purdin cemetery, under the direction of the Wade Funeral Service. 239
