OBITUARY

Clara F., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Hooker, was born in Sullivan County, Missouri, Dec. 19, 1871, and died August 28, 1893, aged 21 years, 8 months, and 9 days, was converted in October 1871, under the teaching of Rev. Rice, lived a true Christian life until death, moved with her parents to Mercer County, Mo. October 1892 on account of bad health. She leaves a father, mother, four brothers, four sisters and many kind friends to mourn her loss. One brother and one sister preceded her in death to the Glory Land. Some five weeks before her death, her brother John T. and sister, Mrs. Barrows, came to see her. When learning her sister was going home, she said, “Tell my two sisters to meet me in heaven.” She was at all times submissive to the will of the Lord, never murmuring though her suffering was great. Before our dear sister died, she lay some time with closed eyes; then she opened them and a sweet smile lighted up her countenance, as she said, "Oh, I am so happy." Then she bade each one a sweet goodbye, and said she wanted them all to meet her in Heaven, for there she was going. Then she wanted all her young friends and companions to so live that they might meet her in that Better land. Then she asked the Savior to bless all the kind neighbors that had been so good to her. Then she said, "Oh mother, weep not for me, for all is well with me." Then turning to her brother she wanted him to promise to meet her in heaven, where parting will be no more. She said, "Let me look out on the light once more." The door was opened, she turned and looked out for a moment or so, and then said, "That will do." Then she fell asleep in Jesus. Loving hands then laid her to rest in Evergreen Cemetery in Lineville, Iowa, there to await the resurrection morn.

“Dearest sister thou has left us,
Here thy loss we deeply feel,
But it was God that has bereft us,
He can all our sorrows heal:

“Yet again we hope to meet her,
When the day of life has fled
Then in Heaven with joy to greet thee,
Where no farewell tears are shed.”

We are thankful to our friends and neighbors for their kindness to us through the sickness and death of our dear daughter, Clara.
