bullet  General Notes:

Albert and Elizabeth reared their family on the original farm at Quincy, KY, settled about 1800. They lived within yelling distance of the home of his mother. When Charles, the baby, was four years old, their house burned and they moved into part of Mary (Worley) Truitt's house and continued to live there. Albert bought the land of several of Mary's other heirs. They left the farm, because of ill health, about 1924 and lived among their children. They were with Myrtle at Edgerton, VA, when Albert died, and Elizabeth was with her son, Ernest, in Vanceburg, Lewis County, KY, when she died. Both are buried in Methodist Cemetery, Quincy, KY. Marshall, Beulah and George are buried in the Old Truitt Cemetery on Montgomery Road between Quincy and Garrison, KY.

Mildred says: My grandfather, Albert, was a small and jolly man. He wore his hair rather long on his neck and it was curly; he also wore a mustache and beard. When I was a child, I was fascinated watching him eat. The whiskers seemed to just part and food disappeared into them.

Albert called Elizabeth, "Betsy," and insisted to his sons that his girl was the prettiest; the daughter-in-laws agreed with him. Elizabeth was born in Portsmouth, VA, but came to Portsmouth, OH, while quite young. She was a city girl and had some problems getting used to being a farm wife, but she was a loyal one and took her duties seriously. She was rather puritanical. For example, she never referred to a woman's or a girl's "leg" -- it was a "limb." And the bull on the farm was not a "bull," but a "gentleman." Nice girls did not go barefoot or wear red, and to Elizabeth all idle words had to be accounted for before God.

Mildred said she always thought Elizabeth's middle name was Branbury, but her older cousins said no, it was Greenberry, and Mildred said she had not found it on any documents yet, only the initial "G." 1747
