OBITUARY

Rev Eli Truitt, the father of Lydia and Matilda, died at Piqua, Miami County, Ohio the 22nd day of July 1844 at 5 1/2 o clock A.M. and was buried on the 23rd at 4 o'clock P.M. with honors of Masonry. His funeral was preached by Rev. W. Dimshitt of the Methodist Church from the same text that Bishop Saule preached Lydia's. His age was 65 yrs 2 mo and 23 days. He expired without a struggle having only a few moments previous calmly testified that he was prepared and that all was well. His affliction was long and painful andborn with great patience. In his devotions, he seldom omitted one petition "Grant us an easy dismissal from the body", which seemed to be answered at that eventful moment in a most remarkable manner.as minister on many marriage records." 1714

bullet  Research Notes:

History of Darke County, Ohio (W.H. Beers and Co. 1880) - I own a copy of this book:

p 283: In 1834, a prayer-meeting began to be held at the house of William Wiley, whose wife had been a member of the Baptist Church at her former home. Mr. Wiley's meetings were at first attended by persons spirituously as well as spiritually inclined. After a time, religious people came quite generally, and this in time to the present Wednesday evening paryer meeting in Greenville. This year, Jesse Prior was on the circuit, and among those in the county added to the church were William J. Birely and wife, JM Baskerville, Lovina Houp, Hiram Bell, Jane and Lemuel Rush and Eliza McGinnis. In 1835, a church building was commenced in Greenville. Stephen F Conry and Adam Miller were on the circuit. In the year 1837, Rev. Prior was returned and the church influence became manifest. Religion was the topic of converse at home, in public and on the street, while attendance at church was general. ELI TRUITT labored on the circuit in 1838-1839, Robert O. Spencer was Presiding Elder and Wilson Barrett and George Starr were Class-Leaders. 1714
