Phillip Mathews 1700
General Notes: Phillip and Jane moved from Logan County, Ohio, to Goshen, Indiana. He was a farmer and also ran the first hotel in Goshen. The country was new, so he had to protect his family against Indians and wild animals. He also did teaming from Ft. Wayne, Indiana, sixty miles away. About 1860 they moved to Warsaw, Indiana. They remained there until marriage of Rachel, who took them back to Elkhart to live. Life Events: 1. Occupation: Farmer & Inn Keeper. 1700 2. Church Affiliation: Methodist. 1700 Phillip married Jane Truitt, daughter of John Truitt and Elizabeth "Betsy" Gray, on 18 Feb 1813.1700 (Jane Truitt was born on 1 Oct 1794 in Surry County, North Carolina, USA,1700 died on 14 Feb 1868 in Goshen, Elkhart, Indiana, USA 1700 and was buried in New Paris Cemetery (Goshen, Elkhart, Indiana, USA) 1700.) |
