Elizabeth K. Truitt ¹³⁹²

My great grandmother was Elizabeth K. Truitt, born June 1, 1832 in Seneca County, Ohio. Elizabeth died September 30, 1909 in Crawford County, Ohio. On her death certificate, her parents are lsited as father George Truitt, born in Maryland, and mother Mary King, born in Seneca County, Ohio. Elizabeth also had a younger sister named Mary Jane Truitt born October 8, 1848. Mary Jane never married and is buried next to Elizabeth. She also died in 1909. Elizabeth K. Truitt first married a Jacob Kocher and had four children. Then after his death in 1873, she married Johann Georg Ganshorn (Goshorn) and had one child, my grandmother Mary Jane Goshorn Zaebst.

I have spent the majority of my genealogical effort chasing on old Germans, and their practice of being called by the middle name sometimes adds to the confusion of getting things straight. Examples are Elizabeth Truitt's second husband, actual name Johann Georg Ganshorn, always known as George, and married/buried under that name. Add to that the other old German pratice of giving a second child in the family the same name as an earlier child that had died, and it keeps it interesting. Elizabeth Truitt's first husband was named Jacob Kocher. I have wondered if her middle intial "K" might stand for Kocher. More likely it is for Katherine.

Elizabeth next married Johann Georg Goshorn after 1873.¹³⁹² (Johann Georg Goshorn was born about 1829 ¹³⁹².)
