I found interesting history of Truitt family at the Dekalb County TNUSGenWeb site. There is a record of "Elijah Truet" on the ledger of Eli Vick's store (from 7-17-1845 to 12-15-1845); several Truitts are listed on membership roll of Salem Baptist Church in Liberty TN; Leonard Fite's will 6-9-1840 (he was grandfather of Eliz Robinson who m. John Wingate Truitt). Also some Whaleys in the records (Tabitha Whaley m. Wm Wingate Truitt).

My grandmother, Lillie Dale Truitt, told me many times the story of Elijah Thomas Truitt going to the gold rush and bringing back the gold. As I heard it there was a money belt and the amount was $60,000, but who knows? It was the story that mattered. I grew up on tales of the Truitt clan, and remember clearly sitting with aunt Dollie and listening to the family news each time she came to visit. She was very stately, and as close to my idea of royalty as a young boy could imagine. 1696
