OBITUARY: Gary A. Markman, Sr.
Gary A. Markman, Sr., 72 of Albion, Illinois passed away Monday, April 29, 2013 at his residence.
Gary was born September 27, 1940 in Albion, Illinois. His parents were Carrie (Smith) and Glen Markman. He married Linda Stiles November 3, 1962 in Jacksonville, Arkansas and she survives.
Gary graduated in 1958 from Edwards County High School. He served eight years in the US Air Force, served on Air Force One for President Johnson for three years. After his enlistment was up, he purchased the house and garage which he called Markmans Garage, then later Markmans Auto Parts in 1969 which he owned and operated until his retirement in 2011. He was a good husband, dad and granddad. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witness at Mt. Carmel. Gary survived many difficulties in his life, including major auto accidents, several surgeries and numerous incidents due to his occupation.
He is survived by his wife; Linda of Albion; son Gary (Jolene) Markman of Albion, Illinois; three sisters. Glenna (Bill) Teitsort of Redding, California, Linda (Robert) Caldwell of Albion, Illinois and Judy (Garrel) Knight of Albion, Illinois; three brothers, Bill (Susan) Markman of Albion, Illinois, Bob (Anita) Markman, of Albion, Illinois, and Jim (Cathy) Markman of Albion, Illinois; four grandchildren, Brianna Markman of Carbondale, Illinois, Deidre Markman of Olney, Illinois and Jamilyn Markman of Albion, Illinois; Roy Markman of Albion, Illinois; one great-grandchild, Willow Westbrook and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Leroy Smith, and one daughter Cynthia Ann.
Funeral service at the Ingram Funeral Home in Albion, Illinios. Burial in Graceland Cemetery in Albion, Illinois.
Gary served his country, however due to his religious convictions, there will be no military rites at the graveside.
