OBITUARY

FELL TO HER DEATH
Nonogenarian sic Walked Out of Second-Story Window
While the Rest of the Household Slept Mrs. Susanna Weaver, Physically Hale and Hearty, Though Almost Ninety Years Old, Met with Fatal Accident - She Died One-Half Hour After Being Found

Special to The Tribune
Scalp Level, July 6. -- When returning from his work here about 4 o'clock this morning Ralph Veil, who is employed as a car inspector by the Pennsylvania Railroad Company, and had been working night turn, found Mrs. Susanna Weaver, his wife's grandmother, unconscious in his back yard, underneath an open second-story window from which she had evidently fallen. He aroused the family and carried the old lady into the house, but she died before the arrival of Dr. A. J. Luther, who was immediately summoned. Mrs. Weaver would have reached her ninetieth milestone had she lived until next September. She was the relict of Christian Weaver, who died a number of years ago. She was the mother of two sons - Abraham Weaver, of Geistown, and Henry Weaver, deceased. For the past eight or nine years Mrs. Weaver had been making her home with the children of her dead son, and had been living with the Veils at Scalp Level since last spring. Despite the fact that the aged lady had lived for many more years than it is the privilege of most people to live, she was up until the time of her death, hale and hearty and was abundantly able to take care of herself. Only a year or so ago she was in the habit of walking the three or more miles which separate Scalp Level from Geistown. Since coming to the Veil home Mrs. Weaver had been going up and down stairs alone and sleeping alone. It is thought that last night one of the strange and childish fancies which have lately been taking possession of the old lady led her to attempt to get out of the window in her room. She struck the roof of a small porch, slid down the roof, and dropped off to the ground. The injuries inflicted by the fall caused her death. Arrangements have been made to bury the remains in the cemetery adjoining the Weaver Mennonite Church, near Geistown, Friday morning. The services in the church will begin at 10 o'clock and will be in charge of Elders John Blough and S. G. Shetler. Besides the son mentioned above, Mrs. Weaver is survived by a number of grandchildren and the following stepchildren: Mrs. John Wingard, of Geistown; Mrs. Daniel Weaver, of Scalp Level; Mrs. Christian Bomgardner, of Dale Borough, and Emanuel Weaver, of Kansas. In a statement to The Tribune this afternoon Dr. Luther, of Scalp Level, who saw the body of Mrs. Weaver after death, said he did not think it probably that the old lady had fallen from the up-stairs window, but that she probably got up and walked down the stairs in her sleep, was taken with an epileptic stroke, fell to the ground, and died from the effects of the illness. He thought she was too far removed from the window to have fallen from it. The occupants of the house, however, hold the fall theory.
