PTA to Fete Retiring Principal
DUNLO -- Ortha L. Weaver, who will retire as principal of Dunlo School at the close of the current school year, will be the guest of honor at an open house from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the school. Sponsoring the event is Dunlo Parent- Teacher Association. A native of Somerset County, Mr. Weaver has spent more than 44 years in the teaching profession . He began his career at the age of 17 at Hoffman Crossing School in Richland Township. Later he taught un Walsall and Old Dominion (Eureka 37) School in the township. Mr. Weaver then left the profession for a number of years, during which he was employed by Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., Windber Lumber Co. and Wright & Hoffman Wholesalers. Upon his return to teaching, the veteran educator joined the faculty of Adams Township schools, teaching 6 years in Elton and 16 years at Eureka 42 before becoming principal of the local grade school. Mr. Weaver is married to the former Rose Lehman, who also was a teacher prior to retirement 2 years ago. They have 6 children, 17 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. The retiring administrator has served as second vice president of Dunlo PTA since it was founded 5 years ago. A buffet will follow Tuesday's open house observance.
