David Ross, son of Joseph and Elizabeth Rush Ross, grandson of James Ross (of Scotland), was born in Stony Creek township in 1805, and is still living in 1884. He is a carpenter and began working at the trade when eighteen years of age. He married Sarah Ziegler, and is the father of Joseph, Jacob, Charles and Catharine. David Ross and his sons are the proprietors of a planing-mill in Shanksville, which they built in 1874. (Source: The History of Bedford, Somerset and Fulton Counties, 1884, Waterman, Watkins & Co.)
