Edward Erling Frostad ^{851,1195,1347,1348}

  General Notes:

Born at home in Kenai, Alaska where father was commercial fisherman. Moved to Anchorage in approximately 1942 after their house burned in Kenai and lived in Anchorage in winter where his father was a carpenter for the FAA and continued to return to Kenai during the summers for the commercial fishing season.

Edward attended the University of Alaska, Fairbanks in the engineering department. He was drafted while in school and worked in drafting for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Ft. Richardson. This was short-lived as his unit was sent to Germany - the first Alaskan Army unit to be sent out of the state.

He had started into the Plumbers and Steamfitters apprenticeship training program working summers while still in school and when he returned from Germany he continued in this trade. He was active in the local union, being it's president for several years and then becoming very active with the apprenticeship training program.

In 1969, he and a partner formed Mechanical Contractors, Inc. - plumbing, heating and sheetmetal contractor. He was President of this business until 1986 when his partner retired and they dissolved the company. He then worked various projects such as the new fishmeal plant in Dutch Harbor and the oil spill clean up in Seward before retiring.

During high school and college, Ed was an avid skier with the Anchorage Ski Team and was later instrumental in building the ski club at Arctic Valley. He is also an avid hunter and fisherman.

AUNT LIZZIE - She had a player piano and got Ed his first sled.

Ed had to fight a bully to get to Aunt Lizzie's house. One time he threw this person into a toilet hole that had water in it - he thought he killed the kid and hid out all day.

Odman was the 1st boy - very mean. Dogs cornered him on the dock and killed him. Then a girl and the next boy also named Odman - this is the one Ed threw into a toilet hole. When the Frostad house burned, Ed was sitting on the river bank crying and Odman was the only one to come over and comfort him. ¹²⁴⁰
