Children of the Rev. George Ross by his second wife:

CATHARINE ROSS. She died at Chambersburg, Pa., Mar 24, 1808, and is buried in the Presbyterian grave-yard there. It is stated in the testimony before the house Committee on Revolutionary Claims, 35th Congress, 1st Sessions (Report No. 451) that she died in Dec. 1809, but this is probably an error. She married March 29, 1762, (St. James Church, Lancaster, Pa.), William Thompson, who died Sept. 3, 1781, aged 45 years, and is buried at Carlisle, Pa. (See Egle's "Notes and Queries," Series 3, Vol. II, pg. 31). He was born in Ireland; came to America in 1755, at the age of 20, and settled in Cumberland Valley, Pa., where some of his relatives and been located for a number of years. He was commissioned Lieutenant 2nd battalion, Penna. Regt., Jan 16, 1756; Captain, Dec. 21, 1757. He took part in the Expedition against the Indians in 1756, under Col. Armstrong, and participated in the battle of Kittanning, receiving one of the silver medals given by the City of Philadelphia to Col. Armstrong and his commissioned officers to commemorate that victory. He was commissioned June 25, 1775, Colonel of Thompson's Battalion of Riflemen, being the first command raised in Penna. during the Revolution, and the first from the colonies south of the Hudson to join the American army then before Boston, August, 1775. In January, 1776, it became first Regiment of the Continental Line. On March 1, 1776, Congress appointed him Brigadier General, for gallant conduct in action at Lechmere Point, near Boston, Nov. 10, 1775. He took part in the expedition against Canada, and was taken prisoner by the British at the battle of Three Rivers, near Quebec, June 8, 1776. He was exchanged Oct. 25, 1780.
