bullet  General Notes:

Obituary, 1947, newspaper unknown:

Clarence William Duppstadt, 65, died suddenly Tuesday night while on an inspection trip to Everett (PA). He was a son of the late George and Mary Statler Duppstadt and was born in Nebraska. He spent his boyhood on the family farm which later became Rhodes Flying field in Somerset township. He graduated from Somerset high school and from the California Normal school.

After teaching several terms in Somerset and Westmoreland counties, he went abroad for the United States government and spent eleven years in the Phillipine Islands helping to organize the schools and training native teachers. He traveled in the Orient and on the continent of Europe. He returned to the United States and attended Pennsylvania State college. At college he participated in debating and was a member of a stock judging team. He graduated with a B.S. degree in 1915.

After college, Mr. Duppstadt managed a dairy farm for fifteen years and then returned to teaching. He organized a high school in Ohiopyle, Fayette county, and also taught in Somerset county until ill health forced him to retire in 1942. Since then, he resided at 121 Fuller avenue and did part-time barn inspections for dairies in Westmoreland, Fayette, Bedford and Somerset counties.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran church and served one year as master of the Somerset Grange and was active in the early reorganization of the Farm Bureau for Somerset county under the agricultural extension services.

He is survived by his wife, Laura Su fall (sic Zufall) Duppstadt; a son, J. Robert, who is an engineer for United Services for Air at Buffalo, N.Y.; a daughter, Gladys, who is program director for teen-age activities at the Young Women's Christian Association of Bethlehem (PA); and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Edward Cleeves and Miss Elsie M. Duppstadt of Somerset (PA); Mrs. John Henderson of Indiana (PA); Robert W. Duppstadt of Pittsburgh (PA); Orlo A. Duppstadt of Vandergrift (PA); and Harold Duppstadt of Kittanning (PA).
