OBITUARY

Dail Stiles, age 70, died at St. Vincents Medical Center on April 9, 2013 from complications of acute myeloid leukemia. He was born in Malvern, Arkansas on July 18, 1942 to Dewitt and Dovie Beason Stiles. He is survived by his wife , Nancy Black Stiles, his daughter, Erin Nichols (Sean) and his grandsons, Riley Hunter and Connor Hunter, sister, Diane Busher (Chuck), nieces, Kellie Rodgers (Chase) and Kim Durand (Jonathan) and many cousins. He also leaves behind his sweet Gabby cat. He played tackle for the Malvern Leopards and graduated from Malvern High School in 1960. He continued his education and obtained a degree in English from Henderson State Teachers College in 1964. After graduation he was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and was assigned duty in Virginia and Korea where he served as Post Adjutant. After active duty Dail worked for The Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford, Connecticut and Dallas, Texas.
In 1969 he married Nancy Black and they moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas in 1970 where he enrolled in law school at the University of Arkansas. He was awarded his J. D. in 1973. In 1974, Dail was appointed to serve as Municipal Judge for Grant County by then Governor Dale Bumpers. While in Sheridan he also served as a Grant County Deputy Prosecutor and served as a special Deputy Prosecutor for the llth Judicial District. In 1977 he became an Administrative Law Judge with the Arkansas Workers' Compensation Commission and except for a hiatus of approximately one year to serve as Prosecutor Coordinator for the State of Arkansas, he continued as an Administrative Law Judge with Worker's Compensation for the next 27 years. In 2004 he received an appointment as a Federal Administrative Law Judge for the Social Security Administration and remained until his retirement in 2010.
Dail was a lover of words, both spoken and written. It was through his love of books that he forged the bonds of friendship with many people. He especially loved to read US Civil War history, US political history and a good old mystery. He had an amazing ability to remember facts, both trivial and important and could quote lines from books as well as movies. He loved stories and had a treasure trove of fact and fiction he enjoyed sharing over and over with friends and family. He also was a lover of music and played guitar and sang from the time he was in junior high. In college he played in a band and in later years frequently got together with friends and family to pick and grin. He looked forward to seeing his beloved grandsons grow up into fine young men. He handled his death sentence with dignity and grace as he did most important events in his life. He will be missed by all he touched during his life.
The family would like to thank Dr. Joseph Beck and his staff for their compassionate care and concern as well as Dr. Bilal Sadiq. All of the staff on 7E at St. Vincents as well as the Outpatient Infusion Center gave the best possible care not only to Dail but the entire family. We all thank you.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers that a memorial be made to the Pulaski County Humane Society, 14600 Colonel Glen Road, Little Rock, AR 72210 or Care for Animals, P.O. Box 7604 Little Rock, AR 72217.
