OBITUARY

Mary A. DeArmitt, 82, Harrisburg, formerly of Stoystown, died April 21, 2011 at home. Born February 26, 1929 in Stoystown, daughter of David and Elizabeth (Helbig) Mahler. Preceded in death by her parents; husband Don B.; brothers: William, John and Walter Mahler and Jacob Wolf; and infant sister June. Survived by her son: Don A., married to the former Susan Berger, Harrisburg; grandsons, Matthew and Evan DeArmitt; sister Emma Barta and husband Peter, Stoystown; sister-in-law of Myrtle Carmany and Anita Katherine Swartzwelder, both of Central City, and Mary Jane Brant and Faye Ibinson, both of Somerset. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A 1947 graduate of Shade-Central City High School and a 1951 graduate of IUP with a B.S. in education. She taught at Shade-Central City School District for 39 years, with 37 years teaching first grade. Member of Grace Lutheran Church, Stoystown, where she was very active and served on church council and altar guild. Also a member of Central City Senior Center, and volunteered through RSVP and was a volunteer at Somerset Hospital. Former secretary for Lambertsville Cemetery Association. She was recognized by the Somerset County Voter Hall of Fame for voting in 50 consecutive general elections. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown. Viewing from 10 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church, Stoystown. The Rev. Walter L. Startzel officiating. Interment Lambertsville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to ALS Association, 321 Norristown Road, Suite 260, Ambler, PA 19002 or Pinnacle Hospice, 2645 N. Third St., Suite 300, Harrisburg, PA 17110 or Grace Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 336, Stoystown, PA 15563.
